The Woman At The Well and God's Grace

The Woman At The Well and God's Grace

In the book of John, Jesus, a Jew, meets a Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well and asks for a drink of water. The woman was confused because Jews and Samaritans didn’t usually co-mingle. Jesus went on to tell her that HE was the living water, and if she followed him, she would never go thirsty again. At first, she thought he was being literal and said, “You are a Jew, and I am a Samaritan woman, Why are  you asking me for a drink?” She eventually realized she was talking to Jesus, The Messiah, after he told her everything she had ever done. Her past and even her present were messy, just like most of us. Everyone has a story of something they wish they hadn’t done or something that has been done to them. I have always identified with this story, not because of the choices the woman had made in her life, but because of the grace that Jesus extended to her. He loved her, and he wanted to let her know that if she followed him, she would never need anything else.

I have been married to my amazing husband, Mick, for 24 years. We have 3 children who are all different in their own way, and we love them so much. We also have a 9-year-old granddaughter who keeps us laughing and on our toes at all times. Our marriage has not always been picture-perfect, but this is where grace comes in. You see, 12 years ago, I made some horrible choices that almost wrecked my marriage. By the grace of God, and a lot of hard work, our marriage was restored, and we are living proof that God provides when we are obedient to him. I  have lived through a previous divorce and some childhood trauma, but God has never left my side. I have learned that God speaks the loudest to me when I am in the darkest places. I am learning to trust him completely because He has a good track record and he’s a good Father. He hasn’t failed me yet, and He won’t fail me now.

That reminds me of one of my favorite songs to sing, “Firm Foundation” by  Cody Carnes. I believe if we build our lives on the firm foundation of Jesus Christ,  He won’t fail us. He loves me like no one ever could, and I have felt that time and time again. Something that has helped me through so many trials in my life is worship music. Music has always been a big part of my life, and I love to express how much Jesus means to me through my worship. I started leading worship at  Southside Baptist Church, Warner Robins, in 2001. It brings me so much joy to worship with my friends, whether it’s on a Sunday morning or a Thursday night at Celebrate Recovery. Worship changes everything for me.

When I accepted Jesus in my heart at the age of 14, He gave me His Holy Spirit to help me until I can be with him in eternity. That means He is with me wherever I go, and He wants me to lean on him at all times. Galatians 1:13 says that “when Jesus saved you, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit. He didn’t just give you part of the Holy Spirit- he gave you all of him.”

I hope you know Jesus. If you do, you can live confident in knowing that you are a child of God, a friend of Jesus, and that His Spirit is living within you. He has redeemed us and set us free to live a life free from condemnation. Romans 8:1 “So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.”

I will admit it has taken me a long time to believe that verse, but I want to live abundantly, without shame, and to share His love to others. I can’t do that if I am bound in guilt and shame. I am a work in progress, but with God’s grace and his spirit living within me, “I can do all  things through Christ who strengthens me.” Phill 4:13.

Jesus' love and grace is like no other. He is the One who knows everything about us and still loves us unconditionally. He chose to die on a cross so that you can receive redemption through His name. God's grace is so good. What does God's grace mean to you? Let's talk about it in the comments below.

Oh how I love Anisa Driggers! She is beautiful inside and out. This testimony is so precious and such a sweet reminder of Gods grace for us. We ALL fall short. Our stories may not all be the same but we are all the woman at the well. Transparency and truth is what brings healing to others! We all need to leave the well and run tell of the Jesus who met us there!! Thanks Anisa!! Love you!
