"For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." Ephesians 2:10
We read this verse on Instagram post, and we hear it mentioned in sermons on Sunday mornings. But do we know the implications this verse carries–the depth of its meaning? It’s my opinion that this verse has been grossly overlooked by our generation. If you really sat and absorbed each detail of its meaning, this verse would change your life.
How amazing is it to think that the same God who spoke the world into existence is the exact same God who intricately created your innermost being? Or, that the same God whose very breath sparked a cosmic movement that spiraled into the creation of every atom, fiber, and molecule that formed the earth, is the same God whose very breath fills your lungs?
Yes, the same Creator that designed the moon and hung it in its place, who formed every mountain, valley, and sunset, and who knew how many granules of sand it would take to fill a beach is the same Creator that holds each day of your life in His hands before you ever lived one.
God knows every little detail about you – down to the number of hairs on your head – and has proposed each of those details to fulfill the good works that He has prepared for you–works that bring glory to His name.
If we truly lived with this verse in mind, we would live in a way that would produce an unstoppable supernatural lifestyle. A lifestyle that has been infiltrated by the power of the Holy Spirit to every fiber of our being.
But, often, we don’t live that way. Instead, we live in a way that succumbs us to fear and forces us into a tightly sealed bubble of protection–one where faith is not required but used as a theoretical idea we toss around. But why? Why do we overlook verses like Ephesians 2:10 and not hold God to His word? I believe its because we live in a society that has diluted the power of the Holy Spirit. We’ve become a generation that has taken our eyes off Jesus and put them on ourselves–our comforts, safety, and desires. And in doing so, we have bankrupted what God has predestined us for.
When you remove Jesus from the equation of life, you live by the standards of what this world has to offer. You live with the glass half empty, powered by human-sized ability and within worldly constraints.
But here’s the good news: you weren’t made for this world.
You were made for more. You were destined for a life beyond your own human ability. You were made beyond the boundaries of time. You were created for a purpose that goes beyond yourself. You were created to be “ His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that [you] should walk in them.” You were created for a purpose that flips the standards of this world on its head.
Your every act of kindness, every moment of obedience, and every step in holiness has been carefully woven into God's eternal plan. He is the one who has marked your life–the One who shaped your calling and empowered you to achieve the unthinkable for His glory.
You were created for a radically transformed life–the life you yearn for–the life you are purposed for.
So what is it that God has placed on your heart to do–the thing that fear holds you back from? What would it look like if you stepped out in complete faith and into what God has prepared for you? What if you stopped living with the glass half empty, powered by human-sized constraints and started life with an eternal perspective powered by the Holy Spirit?
What's stopping you from doing that today?
